Terroir
The humid forest zone of south-western Ghana, the last part of the country's forest belt to be planted, which is why it became the production centre as older regions declined. Rainfall is high and reliable by West African standards and the dry-season harmattan is weaker here than further north.
Flavour character
Ghanaian cocoa is marketed as a graded national product rather than by region, and its reputation for consistency is a function of that system. Regional flavour distinctions within Ghana are not something the buying structure preserves or that this catalogue can source.
